Persuasion in the Midst of Politics

Just before the holidays, I did an interview with Legal Talk Network.  Three forms of influence are discussed — persuasion, coercion and manipulation.  How to deal with a variety of political arenas and stretching your political style are two issues addressed.

Particularly important is the ability to understand what matters to the people you wish to influence.  When your perspective can be linked to ideas people you wish to influence already accept, half the work of persuasion or negotiation is done.  And, don’t forget the importance of garnering support from people who can smooth the terrain.
